Description

A moist and flavorful Amish Apple Fritter Bread featuring a tender cinnamon-spiced apple swirl throughout, topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. This comforting quick bread combines tart and sweet apples for a perfect balance, making it ideal for breakfast, brunch, or a delightful snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Batter

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup (133g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) milk

Apple Mixture

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored & diced (mix of tart & sweet)
  • 1/3 cup (67g) brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • 12 tbsp milk
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper to ensure easy removal.
  2. Make Cinnamon-Apple Mixture: In a bowl, toss the diced apples with brown sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly coated. Set aside to let flavors meld.
  3. Prepare Batter: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract and mix well.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add these dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with milk, mixing gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the bread tender.
  5. Assemble the Loaf: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Evenly spread half of the cinnamon-apple mixture over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and apple mixture. Lightly swirl the top with a knife to create a marbled effect.
  6. Bake: Place the loaf pan in the oven and bake for 50–55 minutes. The bread is done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool: Remove the bread from oven and allow it to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Prepare and Add Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread for a sweet finishing touch.
  9. Serve: Slice and enjoy the Amish Apple Fritter Bread warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • You can use a combination of tart Granny Smith and sweet Fuji apples for the best flavor contrast.
  • Allow the bread to cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting and becoming too runny.
  • For a dairy-free version, substitute milk and butter with plant-based alternatives.
  • Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • You can add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the apple mixture for extra texture.
