Description
Delicious and easy-to-make Chocolate Toffee Bars featuring a buttery base topped with melted milk chocolate and crunchy toffee bits. These bars combine sweet, rich flavors with a perfect texture, ideal for a satisfying dessert or snack.
Ingredients
Scale
Base
- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Topping
- 1 12 oz bag milk chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup toffee bits
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350º F (175º C) to prepare for baking the bars.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and egg yolk just until combined. Avoid overbeating as you want the ingredients to be incorporated, not fluffy.
- Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the all-purpose flour and vanilla extract into the wet mixture until just combined, forming the dough for the base.
- Prepare Pan: Grease a half sheet pan or a 13×9 inch baking dish and press the dough evenly into the bottom.
- Bake Base: Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
- Add Chocolate: Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the warm bars.
- Melt Chocolate: Let sit for 5-7 minutes to allow the chocolate to soften and become shiny. Alternatively, you can return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate. Then gently spread the melted chocolate into an even layer over the bars.
- Sprinkle Toffee: Evenly sprinkle the toffee bits over the melted chocolate layer.
- Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate to fully set before slicing the bars into desired pieces for serving.
Notes
- For easier slicing, refrigerate the bars after adding the toffee until the chocolate is firm.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
- If toffee bits are unavailable, crushed Heath bars or similar candy can be used as a substitute.
- Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the bars tender.
