  • Author: Andria
  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Chocolate Toffee Bars featuring a buttery base topped with melted milk chocolate and crunchy toffee bits. These bars combine sweet, rich flavors with a perfect texture, ideal for a satisfying dessert or snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Base

  • 1 cup butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1 12 oz bag milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup toffee bits

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350º F (175º C) to prepare for baking the bars.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a bowl, beat together the softened butter, brown sugar, and egg yolk just until combined. Avoid overbeating as you want the ingredients to be incorporated, not fluffy.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: Stir in the all-purpose flour and vanilla extract into the wet mixture until just combined, forming the dough for the base.
  4. Prepare Pan: Grease a half sheet pan or a 13×9 inch baking dish and press the dough evenly into the bottom.
  5. Bake Base: Bake the crust for 20-25 minutes or until the edges turn golden brown.
  6. Add Chocolate: Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the milk chocolate chips evenly over the warm bars.
  7. Melt Chocolate: Let sit for 5-7 minutes to allow the chocolate to soften and become shiny. Alternatively, you can return the pan to the oven for 2-3 minutes to melt the chocolate. Then gently spread the melted chocolate into an even layer over the bars.
  8. Sprinkle Toffee: Evenly sprinkle the toffee bits over the melted chocolate layer.
  9. Set and Serve: Allow the chocolate to fully set before slicing the bars into desired pieces for serving.

Notes

  • For easier slicing, refrigerate the bars after adding the toffee until the chocolate is firm.
  • Use high-quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor.
  • If toffee bits are unavailable, crushed Heath bars or similar candy can be used as a substitute.
  • Ensure not to overmix the batter to keep the bars tender.
