Description

Cinnamon Roll Apple Lasagna is a delightful layered dessert combining tender sautéed apples with warm cinnamon rolls and rich cream cheese frosting. This baked treat offers a perfect balance of sweet and spicy flavors with a soft, gooey texture complemented by optional crunchy nuts. Ideal for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, it delivers the cozy taste of cinnamon rolls with a fruity twist in a visually appealing lasagna style.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Roll Layer

  • 16 refrigerated cinnamon rolls (icing reserved)

Apple Filling

  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Topping

  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Dish: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and facilitate easy serving.
  2. Sauté Apples: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter, then add the thinly sliced apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples become tender but not mushy.
  3. First Layer: Flatten half of the cinnamon rolls into discs and arrange them evenly in the prepared baking dish. Spread half of the cooked apple mixture over this layer and drizzle with a portion of the cream cheese frosting.
  4. Second Layer: Repeat the process with the remaining cinnamon rolls, apple mixture, and cream cheese frosting, creating a layered effect similar to lasagna.
  5. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is a golden brown and the cinnamon rolls are cooked through.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove from oven and spread any reserved frosting on top. Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the dish if desired. Allow it to cool slightly before serving to let the layers set.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for best texture.
  • If you prefer a spicier flavor, increase cinnamon or add a pinch of cloves.
  • Substitute nuts with dried cranberries or leave out for nut-free option.
  • Let the lasagna cool for at least 10 minutes for easier slicing and serving.
  • Can be reheated gently in the microwave or oven before serving.
