Ingredients
Scale
For the Cinnamon Butter Filling
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
Bread and Egg Wash
- 8 slices thick, soft bread (crusts removed)
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (for cooking)
For Coating
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Cream Cheese Icing
- 1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/4 cup confectioners’ sugar
Instructions
- Prepare Cinnamon Butter Mixture: In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup softened butter, light brown sugar, and cinnamon until smooth and well mixed.
- Flatten Bread Slices: Remove crusts from the bread slices. Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice into a thin sheet to make rolling easier.
- Spread the Cinnamon Butter: Evenly spread a thin layer of the cinnamon butter mixture over each flattened bread slice. Then roll each slice tightly into a log shape.
- Make the Egg Wash: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Dip Roll-Ups: Quickly dip each cinnamon roll into the egg mixture, coating the entire roll but avoiding soaking to prevent sogginess.
- Cook the Roll-Ups: Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Fry the roll-ups, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy on all sides, approximately 2-3 minutes per side.
- Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Mix granulated sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Immediately after frying, roll the hot roll-ups in the cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat evenly. Place on a serving plate.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Icing: In a bowl, whisk together softened butter, cream cheese, and confectioners’ sugar until smooth and creamy. Transfer to a piping bag for drizzling or serve as a dip on the side.
Notes
- Use thick, soft bread like Texas toast for best results and easier rolling.
- Do not soak the roll-ups in the egg wash to prevent them from falling apart.
- Serve immediately for the crispiest texture and best flavor.
- The cream cheese icing can be warmed slightly to make drizzling easier.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in a skillet or oven to restore crispiness.
