Ingredients
Scale
French Toast Base
- 1 loaf French bread or Brioche, cubed (approx 10 cups)
- 4 large eggs
- 1.5 cups whole milk
- 0.25 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Cinnamon Sugar Topping
- 0.5 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 0.5 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and thoroughly grease a 12-cup muffin tin to prevent sticking.
- Cube Bread: Cut the French bread or brioche into approximately 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon until fully combined.
- Soak Bread Cubes: Pour the egg mixture over the cubed bread. Toss gently to ensure all pieces are coated. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes so the bread absorbs the custard.
- Fill Muffin Tin: Divide the soaked bread mixture evenly among the muffin cups. Press down lightly on each cup to compact the bread mixture slightly.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, until the muffins are golden brown on top and set in the center.
- Prepare Toppings: While the muffins are baking, melt the unsalted butter in a bowl. In another bowl, mix the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon to create the cinnamon sugar topping.
- Coat Muffins: After removing the muffins from the oven, let them cool for 5 minutes. Then, dip the tops of each muffin into the melted butter and roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat completely.
- Serve: Serve the cinnamon sugar French toast muffins warm, optionally drizzled with maple syrup for extra sweetness.
Notes
- Use day-old or slightly stale bread to better absorb the custard and avoid sogginess.
- French bread or brioche works best for a rich and tender texture.
- You can substitute whole milk with any milk of your choice, but whole milk gives a creamier result.
- Pressing the bread mixture into muffin cups helps the muffins hold their shape.
- Serve with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or whipped cream for extra flavor.
- Store leftover muffins in an airtight container, and reheat before serving.
