  • Author: Andria
  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 16 brownies (about 2-inch squares) 1x

Description

Frosted Coffee Brownies are decadent homemade treats featuring rich chocolate brownies enhanced with coffee extract, topped with a smooth and creamy coffee-flavored frosting. This perfect blend of chocolate and coffee flavors delivers a moist, tender crumb brownie with a velvety coffee frosting that makes every bite an indulgent delight.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownies

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter
  • 2 teaspoons coffee extract or 1 tablespoon instant coffee
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Coffee Frosting

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
  • 24 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish and Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8-inch baking dish with non-stick spray or line it with parchment paper and lightly spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix Wet Ingredients: Melt the unsalted butter in the microwave. Transfer it to a large mixing bowl and add the granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and coffee extract or instant coffee. Stir until the mixture is well blended and smooth.
  3. Add Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing gently until the batter is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Bake the Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with just a few moist crumbs. Remove from oven and let the brownies cool completely before frosting.
  5. Prepare the Coffee Frosting: Dissolve the instant coffee granules in 2 tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and set aside. In a bowl, beat the unsalted butter until light and fluffy, then gradually add the powdered sugar. Slowly pour in the coffee-infused cream, mixing well. Add more cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired spreading consistency.
  6. Frost the Brownies: Once the brownies are fully cooled, spread the coffee frosting generously over the top. Slice into squares and serve.

Notes

  • To amplify the coffee flavor, use espresso powder instead of regular instant coffee for a bolder taste.
  • For a lighter frosting, start with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream and add more gradually until the frosting is the right consistency.
  • Optional: Fold in chocolate chips or chopped nuts into the brownie batter before baking to add texture.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
  • Freeze unfrosted brownies wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and an airtight container for up to 3 months; thaw and frost freshly before serving.
