  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 caramel apple pie bombs 1x

Description

Mouthwatering Caramel Apple Pie Bombs are delightful, bite-sized treats featuring tender biscuit dough wrapped around a warm, cinnamon-spiced apple filling with a gooey caramel center. Baked to golden perfection and brushed with melted butter, these hand pies offer a perfect balance of sweetness and comforting flavors, making them a perfect dessert or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Filling

  • 2 apples, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter

Assembly

  • 1 can (16.3 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough
  • 8 pieces caramel candy
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • Cinnamon sugar (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Cook the Apple Filling: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, melt 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter. Add the peeled and finely chopped apples, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the apples are tender and the mixture is bubbling, about 5 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  2. Prepare the Biscuit Dough: Remove the refrigerated biscuit dough from the can and separate the biscuits. Slightly stretch each biscuit, then flatten each one using your fingers, a rolling pin, or a tortilla press into an even thin round. Gently press with fingers to avoid tearing.
  3. Fill and Seal the Dough Bombs: Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the apple filling into the center of each flattened biscuit. Place one piece of caramel candy on top of the filling. Carefully bring the edges of the dough up around the filling and pinch tightly to seal completely. Roll gently into a ball shape.
  4. Arrange and Top the Dough Balls: Place each filled dough ball seam side down into the prepared, greased baking dish. Brush the tops with melted butter to promote golden browning. Optionally, sprinkle cinnamon sugar over the tops for added aroma and flavor.
  5. Bake and Serve: Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and carefully transfer to a serving platter. Serve warm, optionally with caramel sauce or vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Notes

  • Ensure the apple filling is not too hot before wrapping to prevent the dough from becoming soggy.
  • Be careful to seal the dough well around the filling to prevent leakage during baking.
  • Using cinnamon sugar on top adds a lovely extra touch of sweetness and aroma.
  • These bombs are best served warm for the gooey caramel to be enjoyed fully.
  • Can be stored in an airtight container and reheated gently before serving.
